Our company started in the heart of China’s silk country — a place known for its rich soil, clean water, and perfect mulberry-growing weather. For generations, life here has followed the silkworm’s rhythm: feeding in spring, cocooning in summer, weaving through the year. Silk isn’t just made here, it’s part of everyday life. Passed down through families, it’s a craft shaped by pride, skill, and tradition.

For over three decades, our family has tended more than a hundred acres of mulberry trees near the shores of Lake Tai (太湖). We believe great silk begins at the root — with healthy trees, pure water, and hands-on cultivation. This is how we honour both nature and tradition: not through mass production, but through sustainable practices that protect our craft, support local farmers, and care for the land we call home.

    Before 221 – Origins of Sericulture

    In southern China, along the Yangtze River, communities cultivated mulberry trees and developed primitive silk reeling. Silk was widely used for garments and ceremonies, marking the beginning of its cultural journey.

    202–220 – The Silk Road Era

    With the Silk Road’s opening, Chinese silk became a sought-after luxury across Eurasia. Suzhou and Hangzhou developed distinct textile traditions, while Lake Tai — HGSS’s home — emerged as a key sericulture hub.

    618–1368 – Golden Age of Craftsmanship

    Silk weaving flourished, with Suzhou a major center for craftsmanship and trade. HGSS’s artisanal roots trace back here, reflecting generations of skill and dedication to preserving and refining silk-making traditions.

    1368–1912 – Suzhou’s Silk Legacy

    Suzhou, now HGSS’s hometown, gained global renown for raw silk yarn, creating a full ecosystem from mulberry farming to finished goods. HGSS’s founding family has long preserved and advanced this legacy.

    20th Century – Resilience and Beginnings

    Despite wars and industrial shifts, silk production in southern China endured. In the 1990s, HGSS began silkworm rearing and reeling, gradually building the integrated manufacturing foundation it has today.
